Specify Light, Not Just Watts
A professional specification considers useful light output, distribution and beam angle, mounting height, uniformity, colour appearance, colour rendering, glare, flicker, driver quality, thermal management, control compatibility, maintenance access and the environment. Lumens describe output, but they do not describe where the light goes or whether occupants can see comfortably.
For outdoor and wet locations, the enclosure and installation must suit dust, humidity, water exposure, heat and corrosion. An ingress-protection rating applies to a tested enclosure configuration; poor cable entries, open conduits or incorrect mounting can still defeat the intended protection.

Frequent premature failure may point to heat, supply, control or installation issues—not merely a ‘bad bulb.’
Do not cover luminaires with insulation or decorative material unless the product and design explicitly permit it. Do not substitute a different lamp or driver solely because it fits physically. Electrical rating, thermal limits, dimming method and emergency operation must remain compatible.
Emergency Lighting Is A Maintained Safety System
Emergency and exit lighting should be designed and maintained for the building’s occupancy, escape routes and applicable UAE Fire and Life Safety requirements. Functional and duration testing, battery condition, charging indicators, records and corrective action belong in the maintenance plan. Normal lighting, phone torches and decorative illuminated signs are not substitutes.

- Replace failed products with technically compatible, documented items.
- Clean lenses and diffusers safely because dust and grease reduce useful output.

- Have emergency lighting tested and recorded by a competent service provider.
