Why Overload Happens
Every extension product has electrical limits. The wall circuit, plug, flexible cable, reel or strip, socket contacts and connected equipment must all remain within their intended ratings. Multiple moderate appliances can together exceed a limit even when each appliance works normally on its own.
Hot UAE workspaces, poor ventilation around adaptors and a cable left tightly wound on a reel can make heat dissipation worse. Some reels have different ratings when wound and fully unwound. Users must follow the product marking and manufacturer instructions rather than assume that a heavy-looking reel can carry any load.
The Non-Negotiable Rules
- Use an extension only as a temporary solution, not as a substitute for permanent fixed wiring.
- Check the plug, cable sheath, strain relief, sockets, reel frame and protective device before every use.
- Do not connect one extension strip or reel into another. Daisy chaining adds connections and hides the total load.
- Fully unwind a reel when required for the intended load and always follow the wound/unwound ratings.
- Keep leads dry, visible, ventilated and protected from sharp edges, vehicles, doors, rugs and hot surfaces.
- Connect only equipment suitable for the extension and environment; high-load fixed appliances may require a dedicated outlet and circuit.
Warning Signs
Stop use immediately if a plug, socket or cable becomes hot; if there is a burning odour, buzzing, crackling, discolouration, damaged insulation, a loose connection, visible copper, liquid exposure or repeated protective-device operation. Unplug only if it can be done safely without touching a hot or damaged part. Otherwise keep clear and isolate through the appropriate safe procedure.

- Appropriate conductor size, earthing arrangement, plug and socket type for the intended use.
- Effective strain relief, robust cable sheath and mechanical protection.
- Thermal or overload protection where specified, plus a reset arrangement that cannot be mistaken for an on/off control.
- Ingress protection and enclosure durability suitable for the actual location.
- Traceable documentation and UAE conformity evidence where applicable.

When To Replace, Not Repair
Remove an extension from service when the cable is cut, crushed, stiff, heat-damaged or repaired with tape; when plug pins, socket contacts, shutters or strain relief are damaged; when the enclosure is cracked; or when the protection no longer operates correctly. Flexible leads are portable safety equipment—not a place for improvised repair.
